The Ouachita Wind Ensemble, the premiere instrumental ensemble at Ouachita Baptist University, will perform its annual spring concert on March 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.
“The Wind Ensemble has recorded professional CDs with the Mark Recording label in New York and has toured in the U.S. and Europe,” said Dr. Craig Hamilton, OBU’s Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music, director of bands and music education chair. “The ensemble’s March performance features a variety of music for the audience’s listening pleasure.”
This year, featured selections include: “Overture in B Flat” by Caesar Giovannini and scored for band by Wayne Robinson, “Concerto” for Clarinet and Wind Ensemble” by Frank Ticheli, “Ye Banks and Braes O’ Bonnie Dune” by Percy Aldridge Grainger, “The Gum-Suckers March” by Percy Aldridge Grainger and edited by R. Mark Rogers, “Quartets” by Roger Cichy and “Gallimaufry” by Guy Woolfenden. The Ticheli selection will feature the winner of the 2012 Ouachita Concerto Competition, Crista Riggs, a junior chemistry and biology major from Edmond, Okla.
“It’s going to be a great performance,” said Bradley Lindsey, a senior music major from Longview, Texas. “There will be a wide variety of musical selections that everyone will love.”
