Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and for those of you who are in love, it is an exciting time. You get to shower the one that you love with flowers and chocolate, and celebrate the love that is shared. It makes you feel so special. Unfortunately for the rest of us, it is a bit of a sobering day, reminding us that we’re here, alone, single, with no one to share a special day with.
But hey, let’s not let Valentine’s Day 2016 get us down! Let’s have fun with it instead. So, to help us realize how fun Valentine’s Day as a single person can actually be, I have compiled a list of 15 reasons that Valentine’s Day is rockin’ for singles.
- You don’t have to spend any money on anyone. I mean come on, we all know we’re just broke college students who are lucky to get a little Sonic money here and there.
- You can wait until the day after Valentine’s and stock up on all the chocolate that is 75% off. Walmart run anyone?
- It’s a perfect night to stay in and watch movies with your other single buddies. Nothing says “bonding” like crying over rom-coms together.
- No one will judge you for wallowing in self-pity for just one night. We’ve all been there.
- You don’t have to have to wait forever at the crowded restaurants, pretending to have a nice time.
- You don’t have to get dressed up. PJ PARTY!
- You can always go home and let your mom buy you chocolate. She’s always happy to see you.
- You don’t have a responsibility for the night! When you’re in a relationship, you’re more or less obligated to do something, but when you’re single, you have the choice. Enjoy choosing while you can.
- You don’t have to be concerned with being dumped on Valentine’s Day. We’ve all heard those horror stories.
- Well, ok, I can’t think of any more reasons why it’s nice to be single on Valentine’s Day, but I’ve already convinced you that Valentine’s Day really isn’t all that bad right?
At the end of the day, Valentine’s Day is about celebrating the people who you love and who love you. We all have friends and family to celebrate. Be thankful for the loved ones that you do have, and if you really can’t find some friends or anyone to celebrate love with, you can always celebrate the greatest love we can experience: the love of Christ. We’re all surrounded by love; just look around you.
I’m happy for those of you who have that special person to enjoy the day with and I hope you both celebrate it to the fullest. Enjoy the day and be thankful for this time in your life, but for my single people out there, don’t let it get you down, embrace it and live up that single life while you still can!
