This year, a concert, hosted by the Campus Activities Board, has been planned for Christian Focus Week. The concert will feature Leeland, introducved by Shawn McDonald.
Somes students are expressing great excitement about the concert.
“Let me put it this way: I bought two tickets to the show in case I pass out from sheer glee while Leeland is playing,” senior Sam Bushey said. “I just don’t want to land on anyone, you know?”
The band Leeland consists of five Native Texans. Their first album Sound of Melodies debuted in 2006, topping the popular Christian music charts. They collected a 2007 GRAMMY nomination as well as four band Dove Award nominations for categories including New Artist of the Year and Rock/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year (“Sound of Melodies”). Their new album, Opposite Way, was named to “encourage our generation to live passionately for the Lord, even when it means going the ‘opposite way’ of the world.”
“I love how Leeland’s lyrics speak directly to what we are going through in life and their album is always encouraging,” freshman Alyson Walker said. “I cannot wait to see people my age living their dreams for the glory of the Lord.”
“I’m completely stoked,” freshman Jessica Winston said. “I have been wanting to see them live since Sound of Melodies.”
Shawn McDonald, a bit more of a veteran, debuted in 2004 with his album Simply Nothing. His uncommon sound and real voice has been acclaimed ever since.
“I have loved Shawn McDonald for a couple of years now,” freshman Amanda Seeley said. “I like him because he is a Christian artist who doesn’t sound like all the other Christian music. He has a very unique style for this genre.”
The concert will be in JPAC on Tuesday, Feb. 10, during Christian Focus Week. Tickets are on sale now during lunch, in the Campus Activities Office and online.
“CAB is so excited about bringing this amazing concert to Ouachita and we cannot wait for them to come,” said sophomore Madison O’Connor, the CAB music executive. “We want everybody to come buy tickets and have a great time.”
