The Ouachita Tiger men’s baketball team opened regular season play tonight against Champion Baptist and won in convincing fashion, 93-60. Colt Fason led all players with 22 points. Transfer Sterling Bailey was lights out from the three-point line in the second half, sinking 6-9 from beyond the arc to finish with 20 points.
The Champion Baptist Tigers jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, but Ouachita came back with 16:32 left to play in the first half to take the lead for good. The OBU TIgers’ size was too much for Champion Baptist to contend with. Ouachita outscored their opponent in the paint 48-10 and out rebounded Champion Baptist 41-30.
The Tigers led 56-37 at halftime after shooting 64.86% from the field. They only shot 42.42% in the second half but made 7-15 from beyond the arc, with six of those made by the hot-hand of Bailey.
Four players finished in double digits scoring for OBU. Fason finished with 22, Bailey with 20, David Day with 14 and Eric Braeuer with 10.
Micah Delph led the Tigers with eight assists to go along with nine points and one steal. Braeuer was second on the team with seven assists.
Fason and Carven Holcolmbe led all rebounders with seven each. Day, Bailey, and John Kornet had five each.
The Tigers next home game is Monday, November 11, 2013 at 7:00 pm. The Tigers will unveil the 2012-13 GAC championship banner prior to tipoff.
