Tigers Take Down Savage Storm 62-60

January 31, 2014

Micah Delph again provided a clutch performance in the closing seconds as the Ouachita Baptist Tigers were able to outlast the Southeastern Oklahoma State Storm 62-60 on Thursday night.

“We were down a little bit at half, but I like how our players kept their poise, kept their cool,” Head Coach Dennis Nutt said. “They had a chance to score at basket at the end, but both times our guys hung in there and prevailed. It was a big win for us. We needed that.”

Colt Fason led the Tigers with 22 points and 7 rebounds, but it was 2 free throws by Micah Delph with only 3 seconds remaining that proved to be the biggest of the game. Ouachita began the half down by 5, but began a 24 to 6 run that seemingly put the game out of reach. Poor shooting and giving up easy baskets on the defensive end, though, allowed the Savage Storm (5-11, 3-8) to stay in the game. Then, in what appeared to be a replay of last week’s Battle of the Ravine game, Delph came through in the clutch, putting the Tigers up with only seconds left. Ouachita (7-11, 4-8) was able to hold off Southeastern on the Savage Storm’s last possession to seal its fourth conference victory of the year.

Urald King led the Storm with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Eric Brauer added 10 points for the Tigers to go along with Delph’s 10. The Tigers’ next test comes against East Central University on Saturday, February 1, in Vining Arena in Arkadelphia.
