ARKADELPHIA— On a soppy, wet day, the Ouachita Tigers ran past the Arkansas-Monticello Weevils 20-17.
“The rain didn’t both us much,” Head Coach Todd Knight said. “We ran the ball pretty well, so that certainly helped us today.”
Kris Oliver rushed for a 26-yard touchdown to give Ouachita a 20-10 lead with 29 seconds remaining in the third quarter. It was the only time the Tigers scored a touchdown in the second half.
Cole Antley nailed two field goals on the day, one from 39 yards and one from 37 yards. His second field goal came with three minutes remaining in the third quarter.
The Weevils made the score 20-17 on a Jeremy Jackson rush from two yards out with 3:55 remaining in the game. The Tigers ran out the clock on the next possession.
Oliver scored the only touchdown of the first half on the first drive for the Tigers on a two-yard run with 10:52 remaining in the first quarter. Antley added his first of two field goals with 9:43 remaining in the second to give Ouachita a 10-0 lead.
Brett Courville scored a touchdown for the Weevils with 6:19 remaining before half to give the Tigers a 10-7 lead at halftime.
Ouachita recorded 212 yards on offense with 162 coming in the first half. Oliver had eight carries for 72 yards and Hoof had 10 carries for 49 yards.
Ouachita finished the day with 346 yards of total offense with 284 of that coming on the ground. Warford completed four of 12 passes for 62 yards.
Oliver led the Tiger attack in carries with 16 for 131 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 7.8 yards-per-carry. Ka’Vontae Pope had two receptions for 50 yards.
“I’m glad we got another win today. That’s a good team we played today and we’ll be ready to battle another one next week too,” Knight concluded.
The Tigers play Oklahoma Baptist at Cliff Harris Stadium next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
