Texas A&M-Commerce wins close first set, defeats OBU Volleyball 3-0

ARKADELPHIA- After a 30-28 victory in the first set, Texas A&M-Commerce had just enough to take a 3-0 victory over Ouachita Baptist, 3-0, in a non-conference volleyball match on Tuesday in Arkadelphia. The Lady Lions won the match, 30-28, 25-22, 25-18.

Ouachita (12-4) battled through a tough first set, forcing extra play after both teams went back-and-forth, where Texas A&M-Commerce (6-9) ultimately benefitted from an attack error by the Lady Tigers and a service ace from Naomi Mays to close out the first set, 30-28. Following the first set victory, Texas A&M-Commerce swept the final two, as well, winning 25-22, 25-18.

For the Lady Lions, Naomi Mays and Rachel Robertson each had 14 kills each, as Texas A&M-Commerce hit .286 for the match.

Ouachita Baptist performed strong offensively, as well, as three Lady Tigers had seven kills in juniors Kristyn Howk and Libby Merritt, as well as sophomore Megan Askew. Junior Lexie Hegi (16) and senior Lauren Stuart (13) led in assists, while sophomore Allison Frizzell added 15 digs.

Ouachita returns to the court on Oct. 7 to face Southern Arkansas at 7 p.m. in Magnolia.
