Summer movie preview

April 27, 2017

If you’re like me, each summer you highly anticipate all the different new movies that will come out. You can’t wait to just get out of the heat for a little bit, walk into the movie theater and eat loads and loads of buttery popcorn for dinner. In addition to the glorious snacks, each summer is filled with different new movies, and normally ones that are a part of series. Just like any other summer, this one is going to be filled with new and exciting movies, including “Wonder Woman,” “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” “Transformers: The Last Knight” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.”

But of all of these movies, I think I am anticipating the new Spider-Man movie the most. Growing up, I was a part of the generation obsessed with the Tobey Maguire three-part Spider-Man films. I saw each one at the midnight premiere and was so obsessed I even had action figures. This series captivated my attention, and I loved every moment. Although this series was very important to my childhood, apparently this new series aligns more with the comic book version of Spider-Man and will be connected with Marvel’s “The Avengers.” So, I can’t wait to buy that midnight premiere ticket and see Marvel’s new spin on this classic hero.

Another hero I adore is getting her first solo big screen film this summer: Wonder Woman. FINALLY! After years of waiting, DC Comics is finally introducing us to her and expanding their film collection. Wonder Woman will be played by Gal Gadot, who in my eyes perfectly resembles the bold and beautiful lady of justice. Even though I wasn’t thrilled with “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” I have hope that DC Comics will do better with “Wonder Woman” and begin her story in a great way.

The next movie I will have to watch over the summer is the new “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Normally, these movies embody everything I want when I pay $12 for a movie ticket (or even $14 for 3D). I want something that is going to have a decent amount of action, a lot of comedy and just a little bit of romance.  All of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films have exceeded these expectations in my book, and I expect this new film to do the same. However, I still miss the days where Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom were the main love interest. (P.S. The 5th trailer revealed that Knightley will be appearing in “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.”)

All in all, this summer will be filled with plenty of interesting movies. There are even tons more that I didn’t mention like “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword,” “Despicable Me 3,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul,” “Baywatch” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” I expect each of these movies to please and can’t wait to see them. While others might be excited about their summer plans of cool jobs and trips, this summer I’m excited to take a break from my Netflix binge-watching, head to the theater with my pre-purchased ticket from Fandango, grab some popcorn and M&Ms and pop back in the new recliners at my favorite theater. What time is it? SUMMER TIME! It’s time for movies.
