Students experience outdoor rock climbing on RecLife trip

February 22, 2016

This past weekend, I was given the opportunity to go on the Outdoor climbing trip that OBU RecLife put together.  I had never actually seen or been outdoor rick climbing before, so this was something new to me.  It was completely free to go and lunch was also provided, so how could I say no?

It took about an hour to get where we were going.  We ended up parking on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere and hiked deep into the woods until we came upon a large rock.  I took one look at the rock and said, “Nope!  I ain’t doing that!”

I remembered my intense fear of heights and completely cowered out.  It was okay though because there were plenty of things to do while on the trip.  I was able to go hiking.  I got to set up a hammock and practice sick ukulele skills.  I was also able to enjoy nature and spent some time with God.  All in all, it was a very fun trip that I would probably go on again if given the chance.

This climbing trip has lived up to RecLife’s mission statement, which is to “cultivate student development through providing Christ-centered community for learning about and experiencing safe, fun outdoor recreation.”

There are many more Outdoor Rec events and trip coming up this semester.  For more information, go to their website. http://www.obu.edu/reclife/outdoor-recreation/
