Student Profile: Daniel Anderson

December 22, 2008

After going on several mission trips, sophomore Daniel Anderson has decided saving people is what he is being called to do.

He has visited New Orleans and Kenya but according to Anderson his mission trip to Seattle confirmed his heart for people and missions. “ His whole life passion is saving people,” Daniel’s mom, Jenifer Anderson, said proudly. “His passion is for people and Christ.”

Anderson is planning on moving to Prague soon to live for five months to gain some field experience. “I think it’s great that God has put this on his heart,” said Jenifer.

Daniel’s dad, Barry Anderson, said, “We’ve always told them to do whatever they wanted as long as they did it well.” Matthew Anderson, Daniel’s older brother and role model, casually added “I’m pretty jealous, but I think it’s good for him.”

Daniel has a couple of concerns with moving to Prague. Since Prague is mainly atheistic and agnostic, Daniel explains this may be the hardest type of missions because they could be unreceptive and inner city work can be the hard, “they think they have what they need.” Daniel adds, “I also don’t want to be selfish,” while talking about being blessed with the opportunity to travel to Prague.

Daniel’s interest in missions began when he was a junior in high school in Houston, Texas. He had been praying for a group of Christian friends who would encourage him to live for God. His prayers were answered when he met Ian Deetz who is now his roommate here at Ouachita. Deetz said he has seen Daniel “become more comfortable and outgoing with his faith.”

Deetz describes living with Daniel as “fun”, as would his father. Barry said Daniel was “always a goofy kid” and “the character of the group.” Pleased, Barry also said “He’s pretty straight forward in what he believes.”

Jenifer knows this is why Daniel will succeed. “Daniel never makes anything boring,” she said. His family and friends believe God has great things planned for his life. Jenifer repeated many times that Daniel “Cares more for people than himself. He has no needs.”
