The Ouachita Baptist University softball team split a pair of games Thursday afternoon as the Lady Tigers took the opener 3-1 against Division I Arkansas-Pine Bluff, but dropped the second game, 11-3, in six innings.
In the opener, Ouachita (9-5) used a three-run sixth to get the victory.
In the frame, Jana Deen started things off with a single through the left side, but was out at second as Monica Davis reached on a fielder’s choice. With two outs and Davis on second after a Randi Wilson sacrifice, Kristen Rigsbee homered to give the Lady Tigers a 2-1 advantage. Ouachita wasn’t done as Taylor Austin and Emily Matthews followed with back-to-back singles through the left side and Austin scored on a double by Sarah Bell.
Rigsbee earned the victory by pitching a complete-game, four-hitter. She walked one and struck out a season-high 10.
In the second contest, Arkansas-Pine Bluff scored 11 runs on 13 hits to roll to the win.
Sara Hanson started for the Lady Tigers, going 5 1/3 innings. She surrendered 11 runs on 12 hits with three walks and six strikeouts. Crystal Robinson came on in relief, pitching a 1/3 of an inning, while walking one.
The Lady Tigers, who are looking to get back into the win column, play their home opener 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Sully Anderson Field against Central Baptist.
