Participating in Backyard Bible Club is a one rewarding way for students to be involved in local ministry while at OBU. Backyard Bible Club is a student-led ministry created to reach out to kids living in local apartment complexes. Twice a week, the group spends time with kids living in Pine Court Apartments and Ross Apartments.
Stephanie Westberg, a junior elementary education major from right here in Arkadelphia is one of the ministry leaders for BBC.
“We have playtime with them and play games, and then we share a bible story with them and we break up into small groups so they can tell us a story that they learned from the bible, and then we have snack time,” Westberg said.
Though it is tough at times and takes some committment, through BBC, Westberg and the rest of the BBC team are able to set an example to these kids, all while teaching them about Christ.
“It is a time commitment because it is weekly and the kids like you to be there weekly, but it’s definitely worth it. The kids make you have a better week,” Westberg said.
Backyard Bible Club is Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:00-5:30 every week. There is also a prayer meeting every Sunday Night. To get involved with Backyard Bible Club, fill out a background check through Campus Ministries and talk with Westberg at wes56258@obu.edu.
