Ouachita Baptist University senior goalkeeper Neal Ozmun was recently named the Gulf South Conference Defender of the Week on Sept. 29 by conference officials.
Ozmun wins his first career laurel and is just the second Tiger to win Defender of the Week honors after two magnificent efforts in net. The hometown senior from Arkadelphia allowed just one goal and stopped six shots Tuesday as OBU edged LeTourneau (Texas), 2-1. Ozmun did all he could in the Tigers’ GSC opener Sunday, denying Alabama-Huntsville nine times in 10 attempts including two penalty kicks in a 92-second span. Unfortunately for Ozmun, OBU managed just one shot on net as the Chargers escaped with a 1-0 victory.
The Arkadelphia native played 180 minutes in the net, while recording 15 saves and only allowing two goals in two matches for Ouachita (4-4, 1-1).
