Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will host its annual PRISM concert on Tuesday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m in Jones Performing Arts Center. It is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature many different ensembles from the Ouachita instrumental program, including the Wind Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Tiger Steel Drum Ensemble, Clarinet Choir, Woodwind Quartet, Flute Ensemble and Trombone Ensemble.
The PRISM concert is an opportunity for all of the ensembles to be in one place at the same time. Each group will be positioned around the auditorium to create a concert around the audience.
“The program is always enjoyable and well-received. It’s a great way to showcase our talented students,” said Director of Bands Dr. Craig Hamilton, OBU’s Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music and chair of the Department of Music Education.
The program will include the following selections. The Wind Ensemble will perform “The Echo Never Fades” by David Gillingham, “Overture to Candide” by Leonard Bernstein and “Variations on a Korean Folk Song” by John Barnes Chance. The Brass Ensemble will perform the “Overture” from Dancer in the Dark by Bjork and Vincent Mendoza. The Percussion Ensemble will perform “The Gilded Cage” by Susan Powell and “Powder Puff” by Harry Breuer. Tiger Steel, the new steel drum ensemble, will perform “Marianne,” a traditional folk song, and “Jump in the Line” by Harry Belafonte and Darren Duerden. The Clarinet Choir will perform OBU student Megan Massey’s arrangement of “Hide and Seek” by Imogene Heap. The Woodwind Quartet will perform Harry Gee’s arrangement of “Divertimento, K. 251” by W.A. Mozart, and the Flute Ensemble will perform “La Festividad” from Pedazitos by Nancy W. Wood. The Trombone Ensemble will conclude the evening by playing “Suite for Trombones,” by Kazimierz Serocki, Elwyn Wienandt’s edition of “Festive Piece” by Jacobus Gallus and Giovanni Croce and David Weller’s arrangement of “Mr. Sandman.”
