Ouachita Baptist University’s Office of Admissions Counseling will host a Tiger Day Friday, Oct. 19, as an opportunity for prospective students to get an inside look around campus and student life.
“Going beyond the typical tour around campus, Tiger Day provides the student an opportunity to meet with deans, sit in on a class and tour multiple residence halls,” explained Kayla Statton, an OBU admissions counselor.
“Students can get a real picture of our class sizes and professor interaction with our students while attending a class, while their parents can listen to OBU administrators answer questions,” added Ashlee Giles, also an admissions counselor. “Some parents are brand new to the college search process, so it can be extremely helpful to them to hear the answers to questions they might not have thought to ask.”
Along with attending a class and the parent panel, meeting with deans and touring campus, students and their parents will also attend an opening program and closing session. Tiger Day registration starts at 12:30 p.m. in the lobby of Hickingbotham Hall and the event concludes at 4:15 p.m.
“I think that part of the reason Tiger Days are so successful is that students are able to stay on campus for a longer amount of time than they would if they came for a private tour,” Statton noted. “Typically students are on campus for around two hours for a personal visit, but students who come to Tiger Day are kept busy for more than four hours. They are better able to really soak it in and see everything they want to see.”
“We are always excited to have prospective students and their families on campus,” Giles said, “as it is one step closer for them to begin their OBU experience!”
