ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Ouachita Baptist University will host Angela Park, cello, in a guest concert 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 in McBeth Recital Hall on Ouachita’s campus. Park is the 2009-2011 National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) Young Artist winner in strings. The event is free and open to the public.
“This is always an exciting program because the Young Artist is a performer just at the beginning of a professional career,” said Dr. George Keck, Addie Mae Maddox Professor of Music and coordinator of the Young Artist tour in Arkansas. “These performers are truly outstanding artists and are winners in one of the divisions of woman’s voice, man’s voice, piano or strings of the Young Artist Auditions of the National Federation of Music Clubs.”
During the concert, Dr. Cai Lei, associate professor of piano at Ouachita, will accompany Park. Her program includes selections such as Bach’s “Suite No. 3 in C Major,” Fauré’s “Sonata No. 2, Op. 117” and Rachmaninov’s “Sonata in G Minor.”
This is Ouachita’s 51st year to host NFMC Young Artists in concert. “The Division of Music at Ouachita has presented a Young Artist concert annually since 1969,” Keck noted.
Park received her Bachelor of Music degree from Curtis Institute of Music and earned her Master of Music from the New England Conservatory. She has also performed recitals in the U.S., Asia and Europe with such groups as the Philadelphia Orchestra with Christoph Eschenbach and Alistair Willis, the Korean Broadcasting System Orchestra, the Seoul Symphony Orchestra and the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra in China.
