Ouachita Baptist University’s Office of Admissions Counseling will host high school students and their parents at Tiger Days on Oct. 18 and 21. The Oct. 18 event is for all prospective Ouachita students, and the Oct. 21 event is especially focused on students interested in pursuing majors in OBU’s School of Humanities.
“Students and their families are able to meet with the dean of their academic interest and tour campus,” said Lori Motl, OBU’s director of admissions counseling. “Students then have the opportunity to interact with our current students and professors while they attend class, and their parents have a Q&A time with our administrators to make sure all of their questions are answered.”
The Tiger Day scheduled for Friday, Oct. 18, starts with check in at 12 noon in the lobby of Hickingbotham Hall. An opening program will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Young Auditorium, followed by students attending classes of their choice and a Q&A panel for parents at 1 p.m. in Young Auditorium. Students and their families will have the opportunity to take a campus tour at 2 p.m. and will be able to meet the deans of each academic school at 3 p.m. A closing session will take place back in Young Auditorium at 3:30 p.m. and a residence hall tour will be given at 3:45 p.m.
The Monday, Oct. 21, Tiger Day will focus on students interested in Ouachita’s School of Humanities. Students will be given an in-depth look at the school including the Department of English and Modern Languages and the Rogers Department of Communications. Students will be able to tour campus, sit in on classes and visit with the dean of the School of Humanities, Dr. Jeff Root.
“We are very excited about the targeted Tiger Days,” Motl said. “I really think it will give a more in-depth perspective into specific areas.”
Check in on Oct. 21 will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the lobby of Lile Hall, followed by an opening program at 9 a.m. At 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., students will have the opportunity to sit in on two classes of their choice, while parents will take a campus tour and attend a Q&A panel. At 12 noon, students interested in communications will have a front row seat for a taping of “The Eldrige Show” in the TV studio in Lile Hall. At 12:45 p.m., students and their families will enjoy lunch in the Ouachita Commons, and a residence hall tour will be given at 1:30 p.m.
