The Ouachita Tigers (14-10, 7-7 GAC) recorded what might be their most exciting victory of the 2011-2012 season on Monday night, downing the rival Henderson State Reddies (15-9, 10-4 GAC) by a final score of 93-86 in overtime. Ouachita had four players in double figures, contributing 86 of the Tigers’ 93 points.
Ouachita was led by junior Austin Mitchell, who posted a 9 of 16 performance for 30 points. Other double-digit performers included junior Nigel Ramsey with 16, junior Michael Morris with 15, junior Julian LaDay with 14 and senior Emmanuel Engulu with 11. Morris also added a team-high seven rebounds while posting a game-high four assists. Ramsey recorded a game-high four assists whlie LaDay added a game-high five steals.
Henderson State was led by Andrew Ensley, who posted a 23 point, 13 rebound double-double performance. Jonathan Fitzgerald added 17 points and three assists for the Reddies, followed closely by Denzel Lyles who finished with 14 points.
Ouachita shot 56.6 percent from the floor, while holding the Reddies to 45.9 percent from the floor. They grabbed 28 rebounds as compared to Henderson’s 26 but turned the ball over 20 times to HSU’s 17. Ouachita posted a 4 of 5 performance from the floor in overtime, while making 9 of 11 free throws in the overtime period.
Ouachita returns to action on Thursday, when they host Arkansas Tech University. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
