ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Ouachita Baptist University’s Division of Music will present Alison Johnson in her sophomore musical theatre recital at 2 p.m. March 11 in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall. The recital is in partial fulfillment of the requirements for Johnson’s musical theatre degree.
Johnson, a Shreveport, La., native, said that the recital “is a chance for me to perform the songs I love and play a variety of characters all within 15 minutes.” She is the daughter of Mike and Melanie Johnson of Shreveport and has been chosen to perform as a 2011 Tiger Tunes hostess. She is involved in EEE Women’s Social Club and Campus Ministries.
Johnson said she chose selections that included fun music and characters that are meaningful to her. She will open the recital with Cy Coleman’s “If My Friends Could See Me Now” from Sweet Charity, followed by Marvin Hamlisch’s “What I Did for Love” from A Chorus Line. She will conclude with Jeanine Tesori’s “How the Other Half Lives” from Thoroughly Modern Millie. OBU staff accompanist Leslie Harper will accompany Johnson.
The recital is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the School of Fine Arts at (870) 245-5129.
