ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- Ouachita men’s basketball Head Coach Dennis Nutt and Athletic Director David Sharp have announced the release of the 2012 Men’s Basketball schedule. The Tigers enter the 2012-13 season with high hopes, as they return a number of players that were pivotal to their success and their GAC Tournament run in 2011-12.
The Tigers kick off their season at home, as they host Philander Smith on October 25 for an exhibition game. They will follow that game with another exhibition game, this time on the road though, as they will travel to Cape Girardeau, Missouri for a game against Southeast Missouri State on October 30.
To kick off the regular season, the Tigers will host LeTourneau on November 9. They won’t have a lot of time before their next game either, as they follow that game with a November 12 contest against Champion Baptist at home. The Tigers will then travel to Commerce, Texas on November 20 for a match-up with the Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce before returning home for a November 24 game against Midwestern State.
Conference play will kick off on November 29 for Nutt and his Tigers, as they host East Central University. They will then host Southeastern Oklahoma State on December 1. They will follow those two games up with a two game road swing, where they will face off with Arkansas-Monticello on December 6 and Southern Arkansas on December 8.
The Tigers will slip in a couple more non-conference games following their early conference games, as they host Texas A&M-Commerce on December 18 and travel to Stephenville, Texas for a game against Tarleton State on December 29.
Ouachita will kick off the New Year with a road game against preliminary GAC member Southern Nazarene on January 3, before returning home for a match-up with Arkansas Tech on January 10. Two days later, they will travel to Searcy, to take on the Bisons of Harding University, followed by a four game home stand, three of which will count as conference games.
Their home stand will kick off with another preliminary GAC member, Northwestern Oklahoma on January 17, followed by a January 19 match-up against Southwestern Oklahoma. On the 24th of January, they will host the first installment of the Battle of the Ravine rivalry, as Henderson State will come to Bill Vining Arena. They will get just two days off, before hosting Southern Arkansas on January 26.
On January 31, they begin a two game road swing, as they take on Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, followed by a February 2 match-up with East Central in Ada, Oklahoma. The Tigers will host Southern Nazarene for their second contest of the season on February 9, which they will follow up with a trip to Russellville to take on Arkansas Tech on February 14.
The Tigers will play host to Harding on February 16, before going on their longest road swing of the year, a three game trip. They will kick off the road swing with a February 21 contest against Northwestern Oklahoma, before heading to Weatherford, Oklahoma for a contest against Southwestern Oklahoma on February 23. They will close out their road trip on February 28, when they cross the street to take on Henderson State for the second time in 2012-2013. Ouachita will follow up their match-up with Henderson State at home, where they host Arkansas-Monticello on March 2 to close out the regular season.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Tigers will travel to Bartlesville, Oklahoma to compete in the Great American Conference tournament on March 8-10.
