OBU Swimming takes to the pool

The Ouachita Baptist University swimming and diving teams took to the pool for the second day of the New South Intercollegiate Conference Championships at Delta State University.

In the first event – the 200 Free Relay, the “A’ team of Ksenia Gromova, Megan Young, Brittany Norton and Trina May, placed third in 1:37.12. The “B” team of Ruth Megli, Summer Morris, Sarah Davis and Megan Rishel took 12th in 1:43.54.

In the 500 Free “A” Final, Young took fourth by qualifying in a Division II National “B” cut in 5:07.39. In the “B” Final, Norton placed 12th in 5:15.18, while Kati Patterson was 13th in 5:17.26. Davis was 16th in 5:26.92, while in the “C” Final, Kelly Johnson and Heidi Siner took 18th and 19th, respectively, in 5:23.89 and 5:29.86.

In the 500 Free men’s “A” Final, Vicente Condorelli placed fifth in 4:38.69, while qualifying for the National “B” cut. In the “B” final, Matthew Pope was 15th in 4:47.80, while in the “C” final, Will Wood also qualified for the National “B” cut by taking 17th in 4:41.71. Nathan Bercaw and Kyle Bartlett were 19th and 20th, respectively in 4:52.40 and 4:59.22. Nick Bass was 24th in 5:04.99.

In the 200 IM “A” Finals, Gromova qualified for the National “A” cut by placing third in 2:07.73. Sarah Watson was sixth by qualifying for the National “B” cut in 2:09.56. In the “B” Finals, Jenny Christensen was 11th in 2:14.51, while Greta James took 16th in 2:33.18.

Nelson Silva qualified for the National “A” cut in the 200 IM men’s “A” Finals in 1:52.33. Karkoska was sixth in 1:54.41 to qualify for the National “B” cut. In the “B” Finals, Krc and Kyle Tilley were 11th and 12th in 1:59.26 and 2:00.11. In the “C” Finals, Razvan Goga was 18th in 2:11.56.

In the 50 Free women’s “A” Finals, May, who qualified for the National “B” cut, placed sixth in 24.38. In the “B” Finals, Megli was 16th in 26.15, while in the “C” Finals, Rishel was 17th and Amiee Ragan 19th, respectively, in 26.69 and 27.15.

Rada Badalac gave Ouachita its first finals victory of the Championships in the 50 Free “A” Finals by qualifying in the National “A” cut in 20:42. Heinze, who also qualified for the “A” cut, and Eubanks, who qualified for the National “B” cut, went three-four, coming in at 20:69 and 20:99. In the “B” Finals, John Ragland was 12th in 21.77, while Austin Teague was 14th in 21.83. In the “C” Finals, Tomlinson placed 21st in 22.39.

In the women’s 1-meter diving, Kelli Caldwell took fifth with 174.00 points. On the men’s side in the 3-meter diving event, Chris Hull placed second with 297.25.

In the women’s 400 Medley Relay, the “A” team of Watson, Christensen, Gromova and May qualified for the National “A” cut by taking third in 3:53.89. The “B” team of Patterson, Morris, Norton and Young finished in 11th in 4:00.83.

In the men’s 400 Medley Relay, team “A” team of Nelson Silva, Goga, Heinze and Badalac also qualified for the National “A” cut in second in 3:22.29. The “B” team of Karkoska, Eubanks, Ragland and Teague were 10th in 3:29.59.

Both teams will be action Friday, Feb. 13 as events of 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, 3-meter women’s diving and 1-meter men’s diving will take place at the Delta State University Aquatics Club.
