OBU Softball swept by Delta State

ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University softball team were swept Sunday in a Gulf South Conference West Division doubleheader, falling to Delta State, 2-1, in the opener and x-x in 10 innings in the second contest at Sully Anderson Field.

Delta State (13-10 overall, 2-2 GSC West) struck first in the opener on a two-run homer by Brooke Allgood to grab a 2-0 advantage.

Ouachita (15-18, 4-8) cut the Lady Statesmen lead in half with a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Taylor Austin began the frame with a triple to right and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Sarah Bell.

Kristen Rigsbee (9-9) pitched a complete game, giving up a pair of runs on two hits, while fanning six.

Kate Moreland went seven innings for the Lady Statesmen, improving to 2-1 on the season. She gave up a run on two hits with a strikeout.

In the second game, Delta State broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third off Ouachita starter Crystal Robinson.

Brittany Tillery led off the third inning with a double down the line in left. A sacrifice bunt by Brittany Eikner moved Tillery to third. Courtney Clark with a base hit up the middle to plate Tillery. Allgood advanced Clark to second with a single to right-center. With two down, Kim Basso walked to load the bases. After a pitching change, Paige Silverthorn popped up to the pitcher to end the inning with the Lady Statesmen grabbing a 1-0 lead.

Ouachita tied the game in the bottom half of the inning as Jana Deen reached on a two-out walk and then Monica Davis reached on an infield single and moved all the way to third on a throwing error by the shortstop, which allowed Deen to score the tying run.

Lady Statesmen started the 10th inning by plating a pair of runs to grab a 3-1 lead.

Kimbo Seale began the inning on second because of the international tie-breaker rule. She moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a two-run blast by Courtney Clark.

Robinson pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up just one run, while scattering seven hits and a walk. Sara Hanson worked 5 1/3 innings, giving up a pair of hits with five strikeouts. Rigsbee

Edie Oliver (8-5) started for Delta State, pitching a complete game. She gave up one run on eight hits with a pair of walks and four strikeouts.

Ouachita returns to action with a Gulf South Conference West Division doubleheader 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 28 at Sully Anderson Field against Arkansas-Monticello.
