ARKADELPHIA- Ouachita Baptist continued to make history within the Men’s Soccer Program on Tuesday, placing three players on the 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II South Region Men’s Soccer Team, as sophomore forward Rizvan Ceka earned a First Team selection, while senior defender Alex Tonrey and sophomore forward Sergiu Postolache made the Second Team, officials announced on Tuesday.
The selections were the first in program history, as Ouachita finished the season at 11-6-0 overall, while finishing at 3-2 in Gulf South Conference play. After earning their first-ever trip to the GSC Tournament in 2009, the Tigers made it back-to-back trips in 2010, earning the highest seed in history, entering as the No. 3 seed against Christian Brothers. The Bucs defeated the Tigers, 3-0, to end the season, but the postseason accolades continue to pile up for the program.
Ceka earns a First Team All-South Region selection, after collecting the programs’ first-ever GSC Player of the Year honor in 2010. The Coppell, Texas native was the lone player in double digit goals in the conference during the regular season with 10. Ceka led the GSC during regular season play in goals, points (23), points per match (1.53 ) and goals per match (.67). The sophomore earned GSC Freshman of the Year honors in 2009, as well as 2009 First Team All-GSC accolades. Ceka also earned a spot on the coveted GSC All-Decade Team as an Honorable Mention during the summer after playing just one season in the league.
Tonrey earns Second Team honors, after being selected to the 2010 All-GSC First Team squad and 2010 GSC All-Tournament Team. The senior also earned a spot on the All-GSC Second Team in 2008. The Plano, Texas native finished second in the GSC during the regular season in assists with seven, while finishing first in assists per game with .44. The senior earned GSC Defender of the Week honors on Sept. 7, after earning a spot on the 2010 All-GSC Preseason squad.
Postolache earned a Second Team spot, after earning a unanimous selection to the 2010 All-GSC First Team. The sophomore finished second in the GSC during the regular season in goals with eight, giving Ouachita the top two scorers in the conference. The Heath, Texas native finished second in the conference in goals per game (.53), third in points (17) and third in points per game (1.13). Postolache was a 2010 All-GSC preseason squad selection.
Ouachita Head Coach Alex Denning also earned GSC Coach of the Year accolades for guiding the program to the best record in program history.
Barry’s Sascha Koettig earned All-South Region Player of the Year honors, while the Tigers were one of three GSC schools with members selected to the team. West Florida also recorded three selections, while Alabama-Huntsville had one.
