OBU Leases New Apartments to Fill Overflow of Students

July 19, 2010

Ouachita is leasing Riverwalk Apartments for one year to make room for a significant influx of new students for the 2010-2011 school year. With move-in day about five weeks away, all indicators point to a large freshman class. Some upperclassmen may be moving to apartments to create space on campus for the younger students.

“We are beginning with the housing list just as we did in April when each housing group signed up to live in residence halls,” said Michael Cox, director of resident life. “This means we’re beginning with the groups with the most hours and working our way down the list.”

If students are willing to move from their place in the Student Village to the apartments, all four students from the group must agree to do so. There is no splitting up.

The price is $1500 per student per semester. This includes furnishings much like Gosser and East Village dorms. Meal plans are not included, but can be purchased from OBU.

“The apartments are also very nice and quite spacious. All that being said, it is a great option for students,” said Cox. “However, this is only a one year opportunity.”
