The Great American Conference tennis coaches have spoken, and for the Ouachita men’s tennis team, that is great news. The men’s team was chosen to finish first among the four men’s teams in the Conference during its inaugural season of play, while the women were chosen to finish fifth among the seven teams competing.
Ouachita received three of the four first place votes in the poll, making them the favorite by a long shot, collecting a total of nine points. Harding and Arkansas tech were deadlocked in a tie for second with six points each, while Southeastern Oklahoma was chosen fourth in the poll with three points. This news follows the Tigers’ victories over Division I opponent University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and a clean sweep in a victory over Christian Brothers.
In the women’s tennis poll, Harding took the first place position, receiving three first place votes and a total of 30 points. They were followed by Arkansas Tech, who also received three first place votes, but a sixth place vote left them with only 29 total points. East Central and Southeastern Oklahoma both received 25 total points and were deadlocked at third. Ouachita was picked fifth, receiving 15 points, while Henderson State and Southern Arkansas rounded out the field, receiving 14 and nine points respectively.
Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams in the polls.
