March 11, 2013

It was another tough doubleheader for the Ouachita Lady Tiger softball team on Saturday, as they closed out their weekend series with Arkansas Tech with two losses. The Lady Tigers dropped the first game by a score of 8-4 and the second by a score of 6-3.

In their 8-4 loss, the Lady Tigers (9-19, 3-9 GAC) held a 4-0 lead for a large portion of the game. It all started in the third inning, when Bailey Sanders recorded a two RBI double, which Olivia Guin followed with a sacrifice fly that gave her an RBI.

Kailey Madden stretched the lead in the fourth with an RBI double that scored Suzie Gresham and gave the team a 4-0 lead.

Arkansas Tech posted an eight run rally in the top of the seventh though, highlighted by a three RBI home run, a two RBI single and a two RBI double.

Abbi Frakes took the loss in the game after putting in seven innings of work and recording six strikeouts. She gave up seven of Tech’s eight runs in the seventh though, ruining the shutout performance that she held through the first six innings of play.

Arkansas Tech jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning of the 6-3 loss for Ouachita, putting the Lady Tigers in an early hole.

Ouachita answered with a run in the bottom of the third, but Tech fired right back with another run of their own.

The bottom of the fourth closed the gap for the Lady Tigers, as a two RBI home run from Bailey Sanders closed the lead to just one run.

Tech posted a home run of their own in the top of the fifth, giving them their eventual 6-3 win.

Amber Oxford was the losing pitcher for Ouachita in the second game, giving up three runs and three hits in 1.1 innings on the mound.

The Lady Tigers will try to rebound and improve their conference record next weekend, when they travel to Ada, Oklahoma for a weekend series against East Central. Games will begin Friday at 1 p.m.
