ARKADELPHIA- For a second-straight night, Ouachita Baptist shot above 40 percent, defeating North Alabama, 78-53, in a Gulf South Conference Crossover match up at Bill Vining Arena on Friday.
It was a story of points off of turnovers for Ouachita (2-0), as the Lady Tigers again showed supremacy on the offensive end, shooting 44 percent overall and producing four players in double figures against North Alabama (1-1). Ouachita recorded 29 points off of turnovers, while also holding a 21-10 edge in second chance points. Ouachita started the 2010 season a night ago at Bill Vining Arena with a 95-73 victory over Alabama-Huntsville.
Ouachita Baptist used a strong shooting performance, coupled with 14 turnovers by North Alabama to take a 34-17 first half lead. Coleman and Adams each had seven points at half, while the Lady Tigers held a slim advantage in rebounding, 18-15.
The score was tied at 12-12 with 12:42 left in the first, but Ouachita went on a 22-5 run in the final 12 minutes to breeze into halftime with a comfortable lead.
In the second half, it was smooth sailing for the Lady Tigers, as North Alabama cut it to a 15-point lead with 12:55 left at 47-32, but it would be the closest the Lions would get.
Junior A’Laeshia Adams led the way for Ouachita, scoring 12 points and grabbing a game-high seven rebounds, while senior Maranda Parker and junior Domino Miller added 11 points each. Sophomore Breana Dillard rounded out the double digit scorers at 10, while senior Gabby Coleman played a solid all-around game, scoring seven, while contributing four assists and three rebounds.
For North Alabama, the Lions shot just 34 percent, while committing 24 turnovers on the night. Niala Harris scored a game-high 15 points, while teammate Sanqueeta Meardith added 12.
Ouachita Baptist returns to the court on Nov. 23 against Southeastern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. in Durant, Okla.
