Lady Tigers’ Late Rally Falls Short in Conference Match-up with Southern Arkansas

October 3, 2012

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- After dropping the first two sets of Tuesday night’s match-up with Southern Arkansas (11-2, 6-0 GAC), the Ouachita Lady Tigers (4-13, 1-5 GAC) posted a valiant effort, capturing the third set and playing a really tight fourth set. Unfortunately, their efforts in the fourth set just fell short, as they fell to the Lady Muleriders by a score of 3-1.

Allison Frizzell was all over the court all night, scraping up 23 digs and saving many balls that looked to be sure kills. Megan Askew did her share of work in the dig department too, adding 15. Faith Avalos and Kelsi Bodine were both effecient options in Ouachita’s attack, as they both finished with attack percentages of .227.

Leading Ouachita in assists were Sara Mitchell and Savannah White, who finished with 18 and 15 respectively.

Ouachita posted a total of 22 blocks in the game, including 18 assisted blocks. It wasn’t enough to hold off SAU’s offensive attack though, as they finished the game with a team attacking percentage of .184.

Four players finished with double digit digs for SAU, with three players scoring double digit numbers of kills.

The third set, which Ouachita ended up winning, was a thrilling one, as the Lady Tigers looked to ward off a sweep by SAU. There were 15 tie scores and seven lead changes in the set.

Ouachita falls to 1-5 in conference play with the loss, but the bright side is that they have already played the top four teams according to the GAC standings.

They will look to improve their conference standing on Friday, October 12, when they host Northwestern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m.
