ARKADELPHIA- Ouachita Baptist used a dominating pitching performance from reigning Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week Kristen Risgbee to shut down Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 4-0, at Sully Anderson Field in Arkadelphia on Thursday.
Ouachita (5-1) won their fourth consecutive game behind a complete game shutout performance from Rigsbee (3-1). The junior went seven innings on the mound, striking out 11, while just allowing three hits and one walk.
The Lady Tigers opened up the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning when freshman Megan Askew led off the game with a double and came around to score when junior Sarah Bell connected on an RBI single, giving Ouachita a 1-0 lead.
Freshman Bailey Sanders gave Ouachita their second run of the game when Sanders led off the inning with a single followed by an RBI single from Askew.
Senior Haley Chambers led off the fifth inning with a single then scored when Rigsbee barely missed a home run, settling for an RBI double. Rigsbee scored two batters later when senior Korrine Cook hit an RBI double of her own to centerfield. Both runs would give the Lady Tigers a 4-0 lead.
Cook and Askew each led Ouachita with 3-for-3 performances at the plate, while both drove in an RBI. Bell recorded a 2-for-3 afternoon while five other teammates each recorded a hit. Ouachita recorded 14 hits overall, their fourth time in six games to record double digit hit totals.
The 5-1 start to the 2010 season is the best start in school history since 2005, when Ouachita started the season at 5-0. The Lady Tigers travel to Durant, Oklahoma on Friday, Feb. 19 to take part in the Southeastern Oklahoma Tournament.
