The Ouachita Baptist Lady Tigers celebrated senior night by jumping out to an early lead en route to a 93-51 win over the rival Henderson State Lady Reddies at Vining Arena.
“I’m really proud of our team and the way our seniors played tonight,” Lady Tiger Head Coach Garry Crowder said. “The way they fought on defense really set the tone for the rest of the team and having the best offensive game we’ve had all year really helped as well.”
The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early lead with a three-pointer by senior Nashia James to begin the scoring. On the Lady Tigers’ next possession, senior Erica Sharp drilled a jumper from around 10 feet to increase the lead to five. The Lady Tigers would go on to score on six of their first nine possessions as they led 16-5 with just four minutes gone in the game.
Over the next eight minutes, the Lady Tigers went on an 18-6 scoring run with Katie Kapler scoring five points and Alexis Sharp scoring four of her own. With just 7:14 left in the half, the Lady Tigers led the Lady Reddies 37-14.
Following a media timeout at 3:50, Ouachita then went on another scoring run, outscoring Henderson State 8-4 in the last four minutes of the half. At halftime, the Lady Tigers led 47-22.
In the second half, Ouachita senior Elise Holman led all scorers with 11 points.
“This was a great way for our seniors to go out at home,” Crowder said. “Hopefully this is the type of momentum that will help us in the conference tournament. Seeded in possibly the eighth spot, we’ll need to be at the top of our game.”
The Lady Tigers will play the UAM Cotton Blossoms in Monticello on Saturday. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
