ARKADELPHIA- For the second time in as many weeks, Ouachita Baptist freshman Rayn House has been selected as the Gulf South Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, officials announced on Tuesday.
The Paris, Texas native earns the weekly award for the second straight week, after putting up a pair of victories over GSC West Division opponent Arkansas-Monticello over the weekend.
House held the second-best hitting team in the GSC to just two runs in 14 innings of work. The freshman was even more impressive against the Cotton Blossoms than a week ago against Southern Arkansas, holding the top hitter in the conference in Kayla Jackson (.461 average, 10 HR, 50 RBI) to just 1-for-6 hitting in her two outings against Arkansas-Monticello.
In Game 2 on Friday, House was spectacular, scattering hits in the first, third, sixth and seventh innings, but didn’t allow a player to second base until the seventh inning, and that’s the furthest a Cotton Blossom would get in the win.
In the final game of the series on Saturday, Arkansas-Monticello broke House’s 19.1 scoreless innings pitched streak, dating back to April 10 against West Alabama in the GSC Crossover, as House hadn’t given up a run in four-straight outings. In the fifth inning of Game 2, the Cotton Blossoms put together three hits and two runs. RBI singles by Kayla Jackson and Faith Lund would be all the damage that Arkansas-Monticello could manage. For the rest of the game, House scattered six hits and didn’t allow a runner to third in three of the seven innings.
On the season, House is 9-4 and is 10th in the GSC in ERA (6th in the GSC West) with a 2.54 ERA, while striking out 65 batters in 80 innings of work.
