ARKADELPHIA- Ouachita Baptist juniors Brock Green and Ryan Westover have earned Gulf South Conference West Division Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week honors after a 2-1 series victory over Henderson State, officials announced on Tuesday.
Both players mark the first weekly award winners of the season for Ouachita. It also marks the first time that a West Division school has swept both player and pitcher of the week honors this season. The Tigers split with Southeastern Oklahoma State (10-6, 4-12) in mid-week non-conference action, before winning the Battle of the Ravine baseball series over Henderson State with a 12-3 win in Game 1, before falling 3-1 in Game 2. Ouachita won the series on a 7-2 victory over the Reddies in the rubber match on Sunday.
Green earns his second career honor after finishing the week with a .625 batting average in going 10-for-16 at the plate, with a .937 slugging percentage and .714 on-base percentage. The Hot Springs native produced 14 total runs, including scoring seven and driving in seven RBI. Throughout the week against Southeastern Oklahoma State and Henderson State, Green finished with three doubles, one home run and walked five times. The junior has scorched opponents with the bat as of late, including raising his batting average from .276 on March 22 after a game against Trevecca Nazarene to .330 after a strong finish against the Reddies. In fact, Green had a .293 average entering the series against Henderson State. On the season, Green is hitting .330 with 10 doubles, two home runs and 21 RBI.
Westover earns his first career honor, and produced his strongest outing of the season in a 12-3 victory over Henderson State in Game 1. The Littleton, Colorado native went eight innings, striking out a team season-high 13 batters, while giving up just four hits and scattering three earned runs in the process. The earned runs all came on a three-run home run in the eighth. In GSC play, Westover is 1-2 with a 5.12 ERA in 19.1 innings of work, including 23 strikeouts.
