Coleman excited about Lady Tigers’ basketball season

January 1, 2009

Gabby Coleman is a 19-year-old sophomore who is a very talented player and has bright plans for her future.

She starts for the Lady Tigers at shooting guard and helps the team tear past their opponents.

She places her roots in North Little Rock, where she attended North Little Rock High School and led the Wildcats in a successful high school career.

Coleman said she chose Ouachita because she was really wanted by all those on the coaching staff, and also felt like she could do good things for the team. “I felt like I would make an immediate impact on the team as a whole,” Coleman said. She loved how friendly everyone was, as well as the student to staff ratio. “I feel like the professors actually have a good, personal relationship with their students.”

Coleman sports the No. 23 out on the hardwood this year, and does so in honor of “His Airness,” Michael Jordan. While Jordan is a basketball icon, her role models come from closer to home.

“My parents have been the most influential people in my life,” Coleman said, “because they’ve always been behind me in everything I do. They’re always there when I need them, and that’s what keeps me going.”

Phoenix is her favorite NBA team, but while most Suns fans favor Shaquille O’Neal, or maybe even their new first round draft pick Robin Lopez, Gabby’s favorite player comes from a completely different team, the New Orleans Hornets. Chris Paul is one of the most talented players in the league, and, like Coleman, he plays guard.

Coleman loves to be around, play with and teach children. This is why she is majoring in early childhood education. Her future plans include owning at least three day cares of her own, where she can teach kids, and to be doing something that she loves to do.
