CAB Christmas Party builds on tradition Dec. 5

December 3, 2012

ARKADELPHIA, ARK.—Ouachita’s Campus Activities Board will host the annual CAB Christmas Party on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m. in Evans Student Center. From new decorations to live music, the free party promises all the features students have always loved while adding to the list of traditions.

The party will feature live Christmas music performed by current students as the party’s main feature. CAB planned the event, which is open to the campus community and their families as well as Big Brother/ Big Sister participants, with a new goal in mind.

Instead of the busy “free for all,” Allison Sweatman, director of Campus Activities, said, “We hope that the students will take this opportunity to get away from homework and get away from the stress of upcoming finals and just come chill out and relax and listen to some good music and enjoy the season.”

In addition to music, Sweatman said the “Christmas Coffeehouse” will include such old favorites as cookie decorating, a picture ornament craft and a Santa photo booth where students can have their picture made with the big man in red.

CAB hopes that these changes will not only provide an entertaining night but will remind stressed-out students why the season is celebrated.

“We’re hoping we can bring Christmas back to Ouachita,” Sweatman said. “Being at a Christian university, the reason we’re here is because of the birth of Christ and we want to celebrate the season.”

New decorations are part of their plan to accomplish their goal. The student center’s festive decorations, by Ouachita alumnus David Goodman of Mary and Martha’s Florist and Gifts, are only a start to decorating Ouachita. In coming years, the Campus Activities Office hopes to have the entire campus decorated.

The following student musicians will perform at the party: Hannah Bushey, a junior early childhood education major from Stuttgart, Ark.; Jake Coffman, a junior music major from Tyronza, Ark.; Stephen Curry, a sophomore church music major from Little Rock, Ark.; Stewart Kelly, a senior music major from Dallas, Texas; Carli Sasser, a junior choral music education major from Hamburg, Ark.; and Jalin Wesley, a freshman musical theatre major from Little Rock, Ark.
