Adams leads Lady Tigers to victory over UAM

ARKADELPHIA- Sophomore A’Laeshia Adams led all scorers with 18 points, as the Lady Tigers picked up their first Gulf South Conference victory over Arkansas-Monticello, 66-61, at Bill Vining Arena in Arkadelphia on Saturday.

Ouachita (9-7, 1-2) led 32-29 at half, then outscored Arkansas-Monticello (7-8, 1-2) 34-32 in the second half. Despite shooting just 29 percent overall, the Lady Tigers forced the Cotton Blossoms into 25 turnovers, while just committing 14 on the afternoon.

Adams led Ouachita with 18 points off the bench, including three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Junior Gabby Coleman added 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while sophomore Beulah Osueke also contributed 12 points and nine rebounds.

Ouachita shot 29 percent overall (18-of-61), including 30 percent on 3-pointers (6-of-20) and 75 percent from the free-throw line (24-of-32). Arkansas-Monticello held the advantage in rebounds, 44-37, while the Lady Tigers collected 12 steals.

Arkansas-Monticello’s Chelsea Johnson and Erika Brown both collected 10 points each. The Cotton Blossoms shot 44 percent overall, including 13 percent on 3-pointers and 64 percent on free-throw shooting.

The Lady Tigers return to Bill Vining Arena in Arkadelphia on Thursday, Jan. 21 to face Arkansas Tech at 6 p.m.
