OBU volleyball gets tripped up by Texas A&M-Commerce

The Ouachita Baptist volleyball team, playing off the emotions of a big Gulf South Conference win Thursday night, couldn’t repeat the feat Friday as the Lady Tigers fell, 3-1 to Texas A&M-Commerce at the Sturgis Center.

Ouachita (4-16) took the first game 25-23, but the Lady Lions (10-6) reeled off wins of 27-25, 25-18, 25-21 to get the victory.

Libby Merritt posted a match-high 24 kills to lead three Ouachita players in double-digit kills. Meredith Henry and Kaitlyn Mitcham had 13 and 11, respectively. Lexie Hegi added 46 assists, while Raichel Settle finished with 19 digs to lead four players in that category. Lauren Stuart chipped in with 16, while Kristyn Howk and Stephanie Carrell finished with 10 each.

Alyssa Oberle paced Texas A&M-Commerce with 16 kills. Morgan Ballard and Rachel Lance finished with 14 and 11 kills. Perla Faudoa had 53 kills and defensively, Lauren Flynn and Amy Addison added 23 and 20 digs, respectively.

The Lady Tigers end the weekend at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 4 against Southwestern Oklahoma State at the Sturgis Center.
