Do you miss playing in the mud with a purpose? Are you searching for a place to show off your sleuthing talents? Do you long to delicately cradle an egg in your hands? Then look no further because Tiger Traks 2010 is quickly approaching and the chance to partake in these activities and many more is waiting.
Generously sponsored this year by the Board of Trustees and hosted by the Ouachita Student Foundation (OSF), Tiger Traks is a tradition to place on the calendar.
Competition and excitement will abound when teams of eight – with at least four girls on each – come together in heated battle. Activities will commence Friday, April 23, with a kick-off ceremony, traditional egg toss, Ouachita trivia and scavenger hunt events. Saturday, be prepared to get down and dirty with raft races in the pool and games on the Oozeball court.
Score will be kept and bracket eliminations will take place during volleyball and tug of war. But even if a team is not the most competitive, come out and get involved with fellow Tigers.
“I think that Tiger Traks is the one, campus-wide event that everyone can get involved in from freshmen to seniors, social clubs and independents, athletes and every major,” said senior speech communication major and co-president of OSF, Laura Grace Kirby. “Nothing gets in the way and it’s great community.”
If partcipants are still not sure whether Tiger Traks is for them, plan to be a spectator and cheer on the favorites. This event is not centered around the athleticism, but on the camaraderie and spirit (and the monetary prizes don’t hurt either).
“This is a unique opportunity Ouachita has because we are so small,” Kirby said. “Although you will know most everyone you are competing with, if you don’t, you can make a new friend.”
The Special Events Committee of OSF was responsible for most of the background work for Tiger Traks. This event is held to raise money for student scholarships, the ultimate mission of OSF.
“My personal goal is to have more team participation this year than last year, aiming for at least 30 teams,” said senior accounting major and OSF Special Events Committee co-Director, Jessica Bruchan. “I would also like Traks to be an event that helps more to contribute to the OSF Scholarship Fund and not one that draws from it.”
The registration fee each team pays will go toward off-setting expenses and funding new scholarships. The deadline to sign-up is by midnight tomorrow, April 16. There will be a blue tent set up from 11:30 a.m to 3:00 p.m or forms can be mailed to Bruchan’s box, 4533. The team registration fee is $15 per team member, or $120, and all team information and money must be presented at the time of registration.
“Traks is a fun weekend for Ouachita students,” said Bruchan. “It is a chance for one last fun weekend to spend with your friends before finals week and the end of the school year.”
