Adams named GSC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

ARKADELPHIA- Ouachita Baptist sophomore A’Laeshia Adams has been named as the Gulf South Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

Adams led Ouachita to a 1-1 record in the final two games of the season, while averaging 28 points in both games. The Little Rock native scored a career-high 32 points in a 79-77 victory against cross-town rival Henderson State on Thursday, as Ouachita defeated the Lady Reddies on a final-second buzzer beating 3-pointer by teammate Gabby Coleman.

Against Harding in the season finale, Adams added 24 points and three steals in the 70-60 loss at Bill Vining Arena. The weekly award is the first of the season for the Lady Tigers and the first of the career of Adams. The sophomore was named to the 2009 GSC Preseason Women’s Basketball Team, and finished sixth in scoring in the GSC with 16 points a game.

Adams finished second on the team in scoring during the 2009-2010 season, averaging 16 points, while playing in all 27 games. The guard led Ouachita in steals with 62, free-throws made (131) and three-point field goals made (49) while finishing third in assists with 52.

Adams aided Ouachita to finishing fourth in the league in scoring offense, averaging 71.4 points/game. The sophomore also finished fourth in free-throw percentage at 79 percent, fifth in steals with 62 and eighth in three-point field goals made with 49.

The Lady Tigers narrowly missed making the 2010 GSC Tournament, finishing in sixth place with a 5-9 conference mark, one game away from fourth place.
