The Ouachita Student Foundation has made changes that most students have already noticed, and some that they may not catch until production night.
One of the changes this year is that each club has to use the same design for their sets on stage. The student director of Tiger Tunes, Sarah Hassell, a senior biology major, said, “It levels the playing field and provides a guideline to all the participating clubs so that we don’t have massive structures during one show and then an empty stage on another.”
Another change that has already proven beneficial is that Tiger Tunes tickets can be bought online, at any time.
“I know that in the past since you had to come by an office during certain hours, it was really inconvenient for many people — classes, meetings, life would just get in the way,” Hassell said. “Not only has this online choice made it easier for students but parents and alumni are saved the hassle of having to deal with it as well.”
A ticket scanner was used this year for printing out tickets, which have barcodes to be scanned at the door by ticket takers. In previous years, the tickets for each show were color-coded and could be copied.
“If you try to use a Thursday night ticket for Saturday, the machine will know and will alert ticket takers that it is an invalid ticket,” Hassell said.
Rance Collins, a sophomore mass communications major, is in charge of filming Tiger Tunes. Collins is not necessarily doing anything differently this year, but is trying to do more research by looking at videos of previous shows.
“We are trying to get a good video of this big of a show without missing a beat,” Collins said.
He has been sitting in on clubs’ practices and attended the dress rehearsal to find out the best angle for filming each particular show.
“Tiger Tunes is an important tool to use to sell Ouachita to people because it is such an appealing factor,” Collins said, “and we want to capture the excitement of Tunes.”
The video of Tiger Tunes cannot be sold because of copyright issues, but it will be aired the week after Fall Break on Arkadelphia Channel 10.
The theme for Tiger Tunes this year is “Tiger Tunes – Ouachita’s Got it, Others Don’t.”
“I have loved getting to sit in JPAC and watch each group’s show get better and better every time they run it,” Hassell said. “I can’t wait for the public to see what these guys have in store for them. Tunes is a massive production that would not be possible without all the hard work and dedication the performers put into each show. The directors I have gotten to work with this semester are astounding; I could not have hand picked a better group.”
