“In high school I raced mountain bikes and I became really good friends with someone, we can call her Hannah, who worked for President Bush. They hired Hannah specifically to mountain bike with President Bush because he was too quick on a bike for the Secret Service to keep up with. So on Fair Day (which is a day in Texas where we get out of school to go to the Texas State Fair), my friend David and I were out mountain biking. We had finished about 20 miles for a morning ride and we noticed a bunch of weird cars coming into the parking lot. We thought, ‘Oh man, this might be President Bush.’ So we stuck around and turns out it was and over came Hannah saying hi to us. She ends up asking the President, ‘Is it okay if David and David tag along this morning?’ President Bush came over and shook our hands and said of course we could. I think he connected it was a Monday and that we should be in school, probably thought we were skipping. He asked, ‘Why aren’t you boys in school?’ We said, ‘Well, it’s Fair Day, sir.’ He said, ‘Fair Day? What the hell is that?’ We didn’t know how to respond but from there we go to ride with him. But that was the first time I met President Bush.”
