OBU Division of Music presents “The Pirates of Penzance,” an opera in English

The School of Fine Arts Division of Music at Ouachita Baptist University will present William S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan’s opera in English “The Pirates of Penzance” at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 20-22 and at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 23.

Tickets are $8 each and may be purchased through Jones Performing Arts Center box office by calling 870-245-5563 or by going online to www.obu.edu/finearts. The performances will be presented in the Jones Performing Arts Center on Ouachita’s campus.

“The Pirates of Penzance” tells the story of Frederic, a boy who was wrongly apprenticed into a band of pirates. As his indentures are ending, he vows to not only leave piracy, but try to end it altogether. The ensuing story turns to romance, revenge and pardon.

Members of the cast include: Bryan Brooks as Major-General Stanley, a freshman musical theatre major from Rockwall, Texas; Sean Wilson as the Pirate King, a sophomore vocal performance major from Spotsylvania, Va.; Doug Brady as Samuel, a sophomore musical theatre major from Saginaw, Texas; Jacob Watson as Frederic, a sophomore musical theatre major from Wynne, Ark.; Matt Landers as Sergeant of Police, a senior music theory and composition major from Dallas, Texas; Hannah Chapman as Mabel, a junior vocal performance major from Forney, Texas; Chelsea Cunningham as Edith, a sophomore music major from Cleburne, Texas; Stephanie Bastel as Kate, a freshman music major from Mansfield, Texas; Ashley Wieronski as Isabel, a freshman musical theatre major from Southaven, Miss.; and Abby Adams as Ruth, a senior musical theatre major from Houston, Texas.

Members of the female chorus are: Danielle DeNicola, a sophomore vocal performance major from Waxahachie, Texas; Katie Edenfield, a sophomore vocal performance major from Houston, Texas; Emily Haynes, a freshman vocal performance major from Garland, Texas; Sadie Hillis, a freshman vocal performance major from Henderson, Texas; Grace Johnson, a freshman vocal performance major from Tyler, Texas; Julie Robinson, a senior vocal performance major from Fouke, Ark.; Valerie Smith, a freshman music major from Plano, Texas; and Hannah Chapman.

Members of the pirate chorus are: Kyle Huey, a junior musical theatre major from Grapevine, Texas; Xavier Lagunas, a freshman music education major from Arlington, Texas; C.E. Fifer, a sophomore musical theatre major from Olney, Ill.; Max Swarner, a freshman musical theatre major from Dallas, Texas; Chris Straw, a senior musical theatre major from Little Rock, Ark; as well as Matt Landers, Sean Wilson and Doug Brady

Members of the policemen chorus are: Cory Epps, a freshman church music major from Wynne, Ark.; Jody Lee, a senior musical theatre major from Arlington, Texas; Casey Brown, a senior accounting major from Tyler, Texas; Adam Wheat, a junior mass communications major from Ruston, La.; Preston Pickett, a freshman vocal performance major from Dallas, Texas; Steven Miller, a sophomore musical theatre major from Arlington, Texas; John Housewright, a freshman church music major from Dallas, Texas, and Matt Landers

Lynley Vire, a sophomore musical theatre major from Searcy, Ark., is the show’s stage manager, and Jody Lee is assistant stage manager.

Melody Taylor, a senior musical theatre major from Harriman, Tenn., is the show’s choreographer; and Kyle Huey is the fight choreographer.

Members of the set and technical crew include: Shannon Hunt, a freshman choral music education major from Longview, Texas, as well as Sean Wilson, Matt Landers, Bryan Brooks, Jacob Watson, Max Swarner, Cory Epps, Doug Brady, Steve Miller and John Housewright.

Members of the publicity team include: Sam Parrish, a junior musical theatre major from Forney, Texas, as well as Hannah Chapman, Ashley Wieronski, Stephanie Batsel, Preston Pickett and Matt Landers.

Members of the props crew include: Ana Ganong, a freshman choral music education major from Jonesboro, Ark.; Angie Rosenblatt, a freshman choral music education major from Grapevine, Texas; and Katie Kremer, a freshman choral music education from Ballwin, Mo., as well as Adam Wheat, C.E. Fifer and Casey Brown;

Members of the makeup crew include: Chris Straw, Chelsea Cunningham, Sadie Hillis, Emily Haynes and Danielle DeNicola.

Directing the show are Dr. Jon Secrest, professor of music, and Dr. Glenda Secrest, associate professor of music. Joey Licklider serves as technical director and designer.
