ARKADELPHIA, Ark – The Ouachita Baptist University division of music will host Duo Arete, duo pianists Tatiana Roitman Mann and Kristina Marinova, in concert Thursday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in W. Francis McBeth Recital Hall in Mabee Fine Arts Center. The event is free, and the public is invited to attend.
“We are fortunate to present two outstanding pianists the caliber of Duo Arete … at no charge for our students and for the Arkadelphia community,” said Dr. Ouida Keck, Addie Mae Maddox Professor of Music at Ouachita and coordinator of the keyboard studies program. “Their program will feature some of the greatest and best-known repertoire in the standard piano duo literature and should be enjoyable and entertaining.”
Mann, the current Artist-in-Residence at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, is a world-renowned soloist and recitalist performing across North America, Europe and Australia. She is the recipient of the Tanglewood Music Center’s Peggy Rockefeller Memorial Fellowship and has worked with artists such as James Levine, Dawn Upshaw, Yo-Yo Ma, Charles Rosen and Claude Frank. She has been hailed by the BBC for her performance of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” with the Oxford Pops Orchestra. They described it as “formidable … both accurate and with rarely seen joy.” Mann holds graduate degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, the Royal Academy of Music in London and the University of Minnesota.
Marinova, a native of Bulgaria, serves on the music faculty at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock as the vocal coach for the opera theatre and choral programs as well as the Chotard Institute of Music. She is a graduate of the State Conservatory of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria, where she studied alongside renowned pianist, lovcho Krushev. The winner of numerous competitions and awards throughout the U.S. and world, Marinova has collaborated with many prominent musicians and orchestras internationally. She earned her master’s degree from the University of Michigan.
The program will include Schubert’s “Fantasie, op.103,” Mendelssohn’s “Allegro Brilliant, op.92,” Rachmaninov’s “Suite no.1 Fantaisie-Tableaux, op.5 for Two Pianos,” Lutoslawski’s “Variations on a Theme by Paganini for Two Pianos” and Piazzolla’s “Tangata.”
