OBU swimming tops academically in Division II

The Ouachita Baptist University swimming and diving teams topped the NCAA Division II rankings of academic success awarded by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America for Spring 2008.

A total of 40 teams – 28 women’s and 12 men’s – met the requirement of a team grade point average of 3.00 or higher.

Coached by Jim Dann, the Ouachita women topped the women’s list with a team GPA of 3.597, just edging the University of Tampa at 3.530. Ouachita’s men placed ninth (3.048), giving the combined women’s and men’s teams a GPA of 3.298. Bentley College finished second in the combined standings with a 3.280.

Ouachita’s Lauren Vickroy (4.00), Katie Patterson (4.00) Brittany Norton (3.75), Sarah Watson (3.64), Summer Morris (3.63), Jenny Rocchio (3.55) and Trina May (3.54) were selected to the NCAA Division II Academic All-American Team. Jen Jorgenson (3.84) was tabbed to the Academic All-American Honorable Mention Team.

John Mark McLain (3.80), Vicente Condorelli (3.79), Daniel Karkoska (3.77), Hal Eubanks (3.75), Radu Badalac (3.71) and James Riddle (3.57) were selected NCAA Division II Academic All-Americans. Jason Purdy (3.79) was named to the Academic All-American Honorable Mention Team.

Ouachita opens the upcoming 2008-09 season 6:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 24 at the Duke Wells Center against rival Henderson State.
