ARKADELPHIA- Ouachita Baptist sophomore Allison Frizzell was named Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the week, conference officials announced on Tuesday.

Frizzell leads the nation in digs per set with 7.53 digs per set, including 286 digs overall in 2010. The McKinney, Texas native earned the weekly GSC accolade for her performances in a pair of conference matchups against Arkansas Tech and Christian Brothers. Ouachita (11-2, o-2 GSC West) ranks second in the nation in digs as a team, while the Lady Tigers also rank in the top-five in the GSC in hitting percentage, opponent hitting percentage and service aces. Ouachita travels to Arkansas-Monticello Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.

The award is the first of the season for Frizzell and for Ouachita. Earlier this season, Frizzell and Ouachita junior Libby Merritt both earned spots on the Christian Brothers All-Tournament Team. Arkansas Tech outside hitter Laura Farney earned GSC West Player of the Week honors.
